Last Tuesday, on October 29th, OFN held its annual Volunteer Connect Awards to recognize the excellence and hard work of volunteers and event organizers in Ottawa’s festival community. Hosted by comedian David Brennan, the masquerade-themed evening at Overflow Brewing Company saw dozens of generous prizes awarded to volunteers from the OFN’s prize partners. Special $500 prizes were given for Senior, Adult, Youth, and Rookie Volunteers of the Year. This year's prize winners: Rookie Volunteer of the Year — Milo Unhola (CityFolk Festival)Youth Volunteer of the Year — Molly Purves (CityFolk Festival)Adult Volunteer of the Year — Mario Paquette (Festival Franco-Ontarien)Senior Volunteer of the Year — John Currie (CityFolk Festival) Ottawa’s festivals depend on volunteers in order to make their events possible. Everyone who volunteers to do work for these events contributes fundamentally to Ottawa’s culture, and this is why we think it’s so important to recognize and reward their work.
