AI-Generated Marketing Content Policy

Introduction

As an organization that supports and exists within the arts, culture and entertainment ecosystem, Ottawa Festivals has been closely monitoring the impact and public sentiment of AI technologies in our festival and event sector.

At the end of the summer of 2026, we conducted a public poll through our social media and e-newsletter to gauge the public sentiment of AI-generated creative content. We found that over 80% of those polled were in strong opposition to AI-generated content, citing that they would be less likely to attend an event if it was being advertised with AI-generated images, posters, videos or other content.

To hear directly from our members, we also conducted an OFN Member Survey on AI Use in Festival Organizations to understand how our Members approach the new technologies and how they wish OFN to engage with the topic. While OFN members are generally open to implementing and learning more about AI technology, a key theme emerged that AI should not be used for creative asset generation.

There is a shared understanding that these technologies pose real risks and harm to creative professionals, organizations and industries.

AI-Generated Marketing Content Policy

Listening to our community, Ottawa Festivals has established the following AI-generated marketing content policy:

  • OFN will not post, print or share any AI-generated images or media across any marketing or communication channel – this includes the OFN website, event calendar, social media accounts, printed media or email communications.

  • AI-generated images or media used by OFN Members will not be shared by OFN.

  • OFN reserves the right to replace AI-generated content submitted to the OFN website by OFN Members with relevant alternatives.

  • The use of OFN’s logo, brand mark, or any event logos in AI-generated content is strictly prohibited.

This policy will go into effect as of November 1, 2026.

We believe this policy will go a long way to protect and uplift the work and livelihoods of creative individuals and industries while upholding the integrity and public trust in our sector.

Working in Alignment with Core Values

This new policy aligns with Ottawa Festival Network’s core values of creativity, authenticity, entrepreneurialism, collaboration, and community.

  • Creativity: We lead by being innovative and creative. We find ways every day to animate and brighten our neighbourhoods, city and region.

  • Collaboration: People are at the heart of everything that we do. We do more by bringing diverse people, organizations and sectors together.

  • Entrepreneurialism: We are hardworking, resourceful, dedicated, influential, nimble and passionate. We make great things happen, often out of something small.

  • Authenticity: Our industry is genuine and transparent. We provide authentic local experiences. We keep it real.

  • Community: We create moments to experience, share and learn from each other. We do what we do to create positive social and economic impact.
