May 29 2017 — The Ottawa Fringe Festival went live earlier this month with its complete online listing of 2017 shows. Running June 8-18, the Festival will celebrate the organization’s 20th anniversary with 361 performances of 57 shows in 12 venues centred around Arts Court, the University of Ottawa, and Downtown Rideau. This year’s programming includes performances spanning 37 genres – including comedy, dance, magic, puppetry, music, Shakespeare, improv, clown, storytelling, and aerial theatre – and is a mix of new work, classics, and remixed classics from Ottawa, across Canada, the United States and as far away as Australia, Argentina, England, and Japan. You can explore a house on Besserer Street in the site-specific, immersive House Show (Ottawa); meet the Creator in God! The One-Man Show, a prequel to the Bible (Maryland, USA); take a musical journey through the 20th century with Movin’ Melvin Brown (Texas, USA); or see the world through the eyes of a giant talking fish in Fish Saw (Argentina/Japan) – this is only a sample of what’s on stage this June. In addition to performances, the Festival will host a series of special events in honour of 20 years of Fringe in Ottawa, including the Fringe Museum (featuring artifacts spanning the Festival’s history); the return of the Fringe’s printed newsletter, Off The Record; and our 1997 Party on June 10 (where we’ll dance until well past curfew). New Beer Tent! We are thrilled to bring our Beer Tent back outside. After two years without a home, we’ve partnered with the University of Ottawa to bring the Tent to Tabaret Lawn, just steps from Academic Hall, Studio Léonard-Beaulne, and a host of BYOVs – it is THE place to meet friends old & new, grab a drink and a bite to eat, share stories and ask “What have you seen? What should I see?” Join fellow Fringers at Tabaret Lawn, and raise a glass to the 2017 Fringe line-up and artists! And the popular Mini-Fringers program is back! Our kids camp runs each Saturday of the Festival, June 10 and 17. Your kids can spend the afternoon learning a play and then perform for you before heading home.
