Who/What/When: The Ottawa Folk Festival and the Bluesfest School of Music and Art will present a Fiddle workshop and Traditional Cape Breton Ceilidh with 2014 Ottawa Folkfest visiting Cape Breton artists CÒIG, hosted by Cape Breton fiddle sensation Chrissy Crowley. Join the amazing musicians from one of Cape Breton’s finest trad groups, CÒIG for a fiddle workshop and jam on the Tuesday, September 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. and a tradition Cape Breton Ceilidh (dance) on Wednesday, September 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. Fiddle Workshop: On Tuesday, bring your fiddle and work with some of the finest players in Canada. The workshop is geared toward beginners-intermediate but advanced players are more than welcome. Non-fiddlers and absolute beginners are also welcome to come and watch. Ceilidh: The dance on Wednesday is open to all. Presented by BSOMA and the Ottawa Folk Festival. Where: 450 Churchill Avenue North (in the basement, side door) at the Bluesfest School of Music and Art (bsoma.ca) How: $5 per person per event. Kids 12 and under free. These are drop-in opportunities with no pre-registration required. Additional info: CÒIG (“Ko-ig”. Gaelic for ’5′) is one of Cape Breton’s most captivating young bands. They’re an exciting ensemble consisting of five solo acts. Originally coming together for a promotional tour for the Celtic Colours Festival, the formation proved to be something special, and the group decided to continue to tour together as a band. Proving to be a serious force to be reckoned with in the traditional music scene with their driving tunes, haunting songs and infectious energy, Còig is a treat for the ears of every audience they meet.
