Improved dialogue between organizations leads to strong collaborative relationship that will have positive impact on tourism and event sectors
Today at the newly opened Le Germain Hotel, the Ottawa Festival Network and Ottawa Tourism launched a new partnership that will see the two organizations collaborate on projects that support festivals, fairs and events with the goal to better understand the industry's overall impact through improved research and to envision bold enhancements that attract new visitors and animate Canada's Capital Region.
“We are extremely excited to officially launch this partnership with Ottawa Tourism,” said Carole Anne Piccinin, Executive Director of the Ottawa Festival Network. “Our teams have been working closely together for more than a year to get to this point, and there are many more exciting opportunities ahead.”
The Ottawa Festival Network and Ottawa Tourism are working together to advance industry impact research through improved data collection and analysis methods. “This research will measure our industry’s value and it will also help identify opportunities to grow and enhance existing annual events,” said Piccinin. The research will be an important resource for industry members when working with sponsors, applying for grants, and planning their programming and marketing outreach.
The organizations are also collaborating on the development of the Festivals and Events stream of Ottawa Tourism’s all-new Destination Development Fund that was announced at the tourism mega event on May 30.
“Every year, several diverse cultural events and festivals, vital to the local tourism economy, animate the streets of Ottawa and showcase the best of our city. Ottawa Tourism is excited to join forces with the Ottawa Festival Network in collaborating on upcoming research projects and creative initiatives that will further support the festivals network, and in turn, attract travellers from across Canada and the world to the nation’s capital,” said Michael Crockatt, President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism.
“We have been having very frank and open conversations in terms of our industries’ needs and that has helped us identify areas to collaborate. There are more opportunities ahead, and we very much look forward to continuing this dialogue,” added Piccinin.
The Ottawa Festival Network advances a dynamic industry through research, advocacy and education. We create an effective networking environment for festivals, special events and fairs in Canada’s Capital Region. A not-for-profit service organization, we work cooperatively with members and partners towards a vibrant, inspired and prosperous festival capital.
