Freezing, a witty, wintery family musical

Writer: Hayley CombaluzierHayley Combaluzier

Get out of the deep Freeze that's Ottawa and make tracks to the toasty warm Gladstone Theatre! Freezing is a fun, family musical tale filled with magic and intrigue: Queen Gerda and her two daughters, Princess Adele and Princess Hanna rule over the beautiful Snow Globe Kingdom.  The Kingdom is threatened by the evil Hans, a terrible villain who wants to rid the world of winter’s wonderland. Local producers Sarah and Matt Cassidy are taking holiday pantomime ideas from good friend and mentor Ross Petty of Toronto’s “Peter Pan” fame, and re-inventing them for Ottawa audiences.  “Freezing”, a fractured fairy tale entertaining for adults and kids alike, is a take on the űber-popular “Frozen”.  Even the hit song “Let It Go”, has an original counterpart in this production called appropriately enough “Let It Snow”.  Where better to set a wintery musical than in our snow and ice-bound Capital? Headlining the show is Ottawa’s own Chad Connell who performed in local theatre before attending the Ryerson University Theatre School Drama Programme.  He graduated in 2006 and has been based in Toronto since then, while starring in Canadian and American film and TV.  Notable credits include: “The Mortal Instruments”, “Murdoch Mysteries”, “White House Down”, and “Sensitive Skin”.  Sarah and Matt are grateful to have him as well as local ACTRA performers filling out the rest of the show’s roles. The Cassidys have also partnered with The Candlelighters who enrich the lives of families dealing with childhood cancer.  The pre-public December 17 performance is a benefit for The Candlelighters for their network of families who otherwise would not be able to see live theatre. Also, a live streaming of the show will take place on January 3 for families connected with The Candlelighters that are not able to make it to the theatre. “Freezing” is a call out from the Snow Globe Kingdom that desperately needs Ottawans’ help.   Bring the kids so they can "boo the bad guy" and "cheer on the hero"! Sing, dance and laugh the time away at this terrific family entertainment that will warm your hearts this holiday season. “Freezing” takes place December 18 through January 4 at the Gladstone theatre (910 Gladstone, Ottawa). Tickets are available at www.thegladstone.ca and www.itsfreezinginottawa.com. Media contact: Kita Szpak, Knock on Wood Communications +Events kita@kowpr.com  #613-236-8452 ext. 512
