Canada Day is just around the corner, and there are countless events taking place in the National Capital Region. From downtown fun to community events close to home, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. See below for a list of events taking place on July 1st, plus tips to stay safe and have fun throughout the day.


Canada Day in the Capital


Downtown Ottawa is the place to be this Canada Day with an incredible lineup of fun organized by Canadian Heritage! Highlights include:


  • Official Canada Day sites: There are several locations downtown such as Parliament Hill, LeBreton Flats Park, the front of the Supreme Court, and Old Hull offering programming throughout the day.

  • Interactive experiences: Try giant bubbles, Canada’s Climbing Tower, DJ workshops, photo booths, Medicine Wheel Bracelet making, mural painting, djembe drumming, yoga, and more!

  • Live performances: Stars (to name a few) include Sarah McLachlan, Tom Cochrane, Randy Bachman, CÅ“ur de Pirate, Amanda Marshall, and Mitsou.

  • The Tim Hortons Canada Day Fireworks: A spectacular fireworks display set off near LeBreton Flats at 10:00pm.

  • O Canada! Station: A national campaign that invites you to submit a video explaining what makes you proud to be Canadian. Your message could be featured during the Canada Day National Evening Show!

  • Ooh Fest: Canada’s largest music, arts & streetwear festival, on from June 28th-July 1st in the ByWard Market.

  • Otto’s Ottawa Canada Day Road Races: The perfect way to start your holiday! The morning’s events feature multiple distances, including a 10K, 5K, 1K for kids and 100m Tot trot. 

  • Beacon Hill Fireworks: One of the biggest displays in the city! The show starts around 9:30pm.

  • Canada Day Orléans: Celebrate by the beach! The fun begins at 10:00am and the party continues all day long.

  • Canada Day Osgoode: Highlights include the parade, live music, a photo scavenger hunt, and fireworks of course!

  • Canada Day Riverside South: Stop by and enjoy countless activities including laser tag, mini putt, the dunk tank, an inflatable obstacle course, and more!

  • Canada Day Stittsville: Face painting, aerial performances, food trucks and more.


Tips for a successful day


  1. Prepare for all weather: Wear sunscreen, stay hydrated, and consider bringing a raincoat in case of rain.

  2. Be aware of road closures: Visit the City of Ottawa website for up-to-date information.

  3. Use public transit: Service is free on OC Transpo buses, trains, and Para Transpo all day.
