Children of Indigo at Bluesfest 2019 From left to right: Mitchell Jackson, Natasha Pedersen, and David Campbell
Children of Indigo, an up and coming Folk / Indie band from Ottawa, performed at RBC Bluesfest this past weekend on July 6th at the Barney Danson Theatre. The three multifaceted members met at uOttawa a year ago and have been making music since December 2017. They have released an EP and will continue to make more music in preparation for a tour around the province.
I was able to chat with them after their performance on Saturday and had a listen to what it was like to be a part of the Bluesfest performance community.
After having mostly performed in local bars, Bluesfest was a surreal experience for the band. The festival brings together a variety of artists to express art and share music, as David said. As not a lot of people get to do that, they feel very privileged to be up on that stage.
They raved about the organization and professionalism about Bluesfest itself. They felt very accommodated and welcomed into the festival from the administrative staff to the sound and production crew.
At the end of the day, the reward of being at Bluesfest, said by Natasha, is looking out into the crowd and seeing people genuinely enjoy their music. Having that connection with people in a live setting is like no other and doing it at such an incredible festival is a dream come true.
Bluesfest is still on, along with Music and Beyond and a variety of other festivals to enjoy incredible live music. Don’t miss out this summer and #GetFestive, Ottawa!
