Writer: Hayley CombaluzierHayley Combaluzier

Ain’t Misbehavin’  - so they claim!  Hear the stories of five men who wrote songs we love – Fats Waller, Kurt Weill, Billy Strayhorne, Glen Sherley, and yes, Charlie Chaplin – and swing to their music performed by Pat Moore, Mary Moore, Marylise Chauvette, Flavio Jorge, and Kate Greenland. For more information, contact: Laurie Fyffe, Managing Director, Ottawa StoryTellers (mad@ottawastorytellers.ca, 613-322-8336, www.ottawastorytellers.ca) NAC’s 4th STAGE (53 Elgin Street) Thursday, February 26, 7:30 p.m., doors open at 7:00 Ages 12 and up Tickets: $22, seniors $18; Live Rush & subscription available Writers and performers:Anne (Moore) Nagy has performed at various venues in Ottawa, including recent Fourth Stage appearances in The Odyssey and The Iliad.  She grew up in a musical family where doing the dishes meant trying out three-part harmonies with her sisters Pat and Mary. Anne is a lifelong choral singer who has dabbled in piano, flute, djembe, and recorder. As a special education teacher, Anne became known for carrying her trusty ukulele from school to school, where a song could often persuade autistic children to sing the words even if they didn’t otherwise speak. Anne loves to bring the power and joy of music to her stories. Phil Nagy was a lover of jazz even before he was a lover of Anne. One of their first dates involved his sneaking her (she wasn’t quite old enough to drink) into the Blue Note Club in Toronto to hear Carmen McRae.  Currently he sings in a jazz choir and has decided just this year to start taking piano lessons.  As a storyteller, Phil is keen on researching and telling historical material.  This is Phil’s third appearance on the Fourth Stage. Three years ago he and Anne tried a tandem performance as they recounted their adventures walking the Camino. Their marriage survived, so they are collaborating again, but they do know better than to try to hang wallpaper together. Music by ...Marylise Chauvette has been involved in the world of music is some way or another her entire life, turning to jazz from her classical roots in the last decade and never looking back. She is known for bringing a strong harmonic, rhythmic and emotional connection to her melodic interpretations strengthened, of course, by her French Canadian joie de vivre. Marylise is much sought after as a jazz pianist by local musicians and singers and plays in several bands. She lives in Ottawa. Flavio Jorge, Originally from Brazil, Flavio has been playing the bass for more than 20 years now. The love for the bass runs in his family, as his grandfather was a bass player during the sixties and his wife is also a bass player. Flavio was a student of prominent Ottawa bass player John Geggie and has performed with many groups in Ottawa, with styles ranging from jazz and R&B to Country Music. Kate Greenland grew up in a musical household – both her parents are performers.  That said, it was only a three years ago that she took up playing music. With dedication and a will to make up for lost time she has become an active member of the Ottawa music scene.  She can be seen around town singing lead and playing mandolin in the bluegrass band The Monroe Sisters, as well as with folk band Bay, Black, and Roan. She also co-hosts an old time jam on Sundays at the Ottawa Bagelshop on Wellington street. (www.themonroesisters.weebly.comwww.facebook.com/bayblackandroan) Mary Moore, already an accomplished painter, Mary says that singing jazz has shaped her creative life over the past seven years. A long time choral and kitchen party singer, Mary  joined some friends at their jazz rehearsals; this led to jazz camp, where she met many talented and passionate musicians, and then to performance in jazz venues and jam sessions. Mary likes the challenge, passion, and control that singing jazz demands. She is also working on a series of paintings with a jazz theme, to be exhibited in fall of 2015. Mary’s professional website (graphic design and fine art) is found at www.cedarlanestudio.netPat Moore, singer songwriter, has produced and performed at the 4th Stage in 12 annual “Christmas GOOSE community benefits for the Ottawa Food Bank, always playing to a sell out audience. Her voice has a warm and expressive quality, as perfectly suited to a rich ballad as it is to an up-tempo power song.  She moves easily from the storytelling of the singer/songwriter genre, to the lonesome sound of traditional country and bluegrass. Her recordings have received praise from Holland, Italy, Australia, the U.S. and across Canada for her captivating storytelling, her warm strong voice, and the musicianship of the people she surrounds herself with.  The live show is always fun!
