WireService.ca Media Release (12/08/2016) Ottawa, ON - The festival hosted thousands of film fans over the course of four weekends between November 11th and December 4th. This year's edition featured a change in venue to Carleton University's Richcraft Hall. The Canadian Film Institute would like to congratulate all European Union Member States for their participation and contributions to the Festival. This year, EUFF31 is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2016 Audience Choice Award is Familienfest (Family Celebration) from Germany. This internationally acclaimed film was directed by Lars Kraume and deals with a topic that is familiar to all, especially around the holidays: family tension. Familienfest's Hannelore Elsner was nominated at both the Bambi and Jupiter awards for her excellent performance. Overall, the films scored an average audience rating of 4.16 out of 5 stars, which reflects the high caliber of cinema that each Member State brought to Ottawa, as well as the tight competition for the second annual Audience Choice Award. As a thank you to those who voted, the CFI held a draw to win an Ambassador membership, which includes a number of benefits including free admission to most events. Congratulations to Dan Tuplin, the winner. The EUFF would also like to thank all sponsors, supporters, staff, and volunteers for their continued support. The Canadian Film Institute was incorporated in 1935 as a federally-chartered, nongovernmental, non-profit cultural organization.
