The beginning of something new, growing out of something successful.
Wakefield International Film Festival is becoming WAKEFIELD DOC FEST.
The new name and logo: a clear identity – we are a DOCUMENTARY film festival and we're located in the lovely village of Wakefield, whose most identifying feature to people near and far is the beautiful covered bridge over the Gatineau River.
And what's behind all of this? A lot! Wakefield International Film Festival has enjoyed steady growth over the seven festivals so far. In the last two years, our audience increased by 20% each year. And along with this growth, media and industry attention (always present) has increased and amplified. Our audience outside the local community has grown and we are marching down the road to higher level recognition beyond the Wakefield La Pêche area.
So that leaves us where?
Well: we've got to keep pace with this growth and make sure we continue to offer the community – and its outside visitors – everything that WIFF has been known for, that is, screening top quality, current, award-winning, feature-length Canadian and International documentary films, along with experience enhancements for our audience like director visits, panel discussions, and the like. We are dedicated to the documentary form in film: we believe it allows for the measured expression and contemplation of all manner of themes, often with a particular point of view. AND we are dedicated to presenting documentary films to gatherings of people, so that these themes might have some LIVE discussion and long-lasting resonance with those who view them.
This year, 2016/2017, we are increasing our offerings.
In September, we initiated a successful pilot project, a themed weekend of current, internationally recognized, feature-length documentary films... our theme this year: MUSIC, WHAT IT IS!
In the Spring, we're embarking on a series of documentary films aimed at seniors that will tour to local communities.
During the main Wakefield Doc Fest in February, we're expanding our programming with a special Saturday Matinee Series of 'one show only' offerings.
Come celebrate with us! Our initial festival as
will take place 4 – 26 February at the Centre Wakefield La Pêche in Wakefield, Québec. Watch for more details!
