Treepot Indie Double-Bill Screening on February 23

A double-bill of locally produced films by Ottawa filmmakers will screen at the brand new state-of-the-art Algonquin Commons Theatre on the evening of Saturday February 23rd at 7pm. The short film ALGEBRA was created for the 2012 Digi60 Filmmaker’s Festival. It is about a visual artist who falls in love with his muse from whom he hides the fact that he is losing his sight. He descends into madness and shuts out the world when he ultimately becomes a painter without vision. The story was written by local screenwriter Jennifer Mulligan and was directed by Jith Paul (Treepot Media), lensed by Karim Ayari (Splitklips) and produced by Richard Towns (Parktown Productions) and stars local actors Sasha Chichagov and Martine Roquebrune. The feature film THIRTEEN DOWNS premiered at the Ottawa International Film Festival in the Summer of 2012. It is a modern day drama-suspense that explores a broken family’s fallen past. It is written and directed by Karim Ayari (Splitklips) who also produced the film along with Nina Bains and Shawn Kazda (Quixotic Pictures). The film stars 14 year old Sophia Radisch in the lead role as well as local actors Ron Tarrant and Richard Gelinas. This screening on February 23rd is a great opportunity to celebrate the growth of local indigenous productions and to celebrate Indie Filmmaking in Ottawa. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Aglonquin Commons Theatre Box Office which is located at 1385 Woodroffe Avenue (Building E).
