Writer: Hayley CombaluzierHayley Combaluzier

During the Festivals and Events Ontario (FEO) Annual Conference held earlier in the month in Richmond Hill, ON, the 2014 Top 100 Festivals & Events in Ontario, presented by VIA Rail Canada were named. These Top 100 recipients represent festivals and events that excel within the industry. Included in the Top 100 are the Festivals & Events of Distinction, a select group which represent some of the most well-known and respected celebrations in the province; celebrations which draw both an international and domestic audience. We would like to congratulate the festivals and events from Canada's Capital Region that were named among the 2014 Top 100 Festivals & Events in Ontario and were further recognized as Festivals & Events of Distinction:

  • Canada Day

  • Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival

  • RBC Royal Bank Bluesfest

  • TD Ottawa Jazz Festival

  • Winterlude

Submissions from FEO members were received for consideration in the fall of 2013 and were judged by an independent panel of judges. Festivals and events of all kinds from every corner of Ontario were represented in the submissions – from community festivals to internationally recognized events.

2014 Best Festival City Municipal Award

Festivals and Events Ontario (FEO) also announced the 2014 Best Festival City Municipal Award. The Award is intended for the festivals and events industry to openly encourage, support, learn from and recognize positive local environments for festivals and events provincially. Through this special award, FEO recognized those municipalities, towns or cities and markets who have worked, through concentrated efforts, to provide an atmosphere beneficial to successful festivals and events.

FEO recognized the City of Ottawa as the 2014 Best Festival City for

municipalities

 with a population over 200,000.
