A Quick, Queer Reminder that Tone Cluster is presenting “Quite a Queer Qhristmas” Concert this Saturday December 13It’s happening at Centretown United Church, 507 Bank Street (near Argyle St.) this Saturday, December 13, at 7:30 pm. Among the holiday goodies: Chuck Bridwell’s Various Themes on Fa La La that opens with a traditional setting of Deck the Hall which develops into a humorous collection of Fa-La-La variations, including musical moments from Rossini's William Tell Overture; Beethoven's Fifth Symphony; Strauss' On the Beautiful Blue Danube and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture; andComing Out on Christmas by Dean X Johnson – a playful song set to Hark the Herald Angels Sing;Jumble Bells arranged by Eric Lane Barnes where his humour explodes in a medley of variations that includes a quick history lesson on the original tune; sections of Pig Latin, Bolero-styled jingles, Russian-enhanced vocals, a presto section that leads into jazz and swing... and even hints of Spike Jones' musical antics thrown in! Offsetting the zaniness is Gordon Lightfoot’s lovely Song for a Winter’s Night about relationships, light in a dark place, and a warm refuge in the midst of the cold.
