The Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival’s (SSIF’s) weekend programming at Mādahòkì Farm boasts numerous opportunities to experience the rich culinary traditions of Indigenous peoples.
Chef Tawnya Brant’s Long Table Feast takes place June 21st and tickets are on sale now for two seatings: lunch at 1 PM and dinner at 6 PM. Chef Brant of Six Nations of the Grand River Territory competed on Season 10 of Top Chef Canada. The multi-course menu, served family style, pays homage to traditional ingredients and cooking techniques. Guests will savour Woodlands Salad with Blueberry Sweetgrass Vinaigrette; Braised Bison with Gravy, Wild Garlic Potato Pave, Sauteed Asparagus, Green Beans; Bluecorn Scone with Forged Greens Compound Butter; Strawberry Shortcake with Vanilla Chantilly and Strawberry Gastric; all complimented by Zibbins Nibi cedar infused waters, fresh strawberry juice, coffee & tea. Juno and SSIMAs winner Logan Staats delivers a special musical performance.

On June 22nd, Chef Trudy Metcalfe Coe, an award-winning Inuk Chef, originally from Newfoundland and Labrador will lead the group to prepare a popular meal from the North in new ways with blackened arctic char, pan-fried potatoes and corn with sage butter.
On June 23 Chef Tawnya Brant, renowned for her innovative approach to Indigenous cuisine, blending customary ingredients with modern culinary techniques will lead the group in preparing a traditional strawberry dessert. Her work not only showcases the rich flavours of her heritage but also promotes sustainability and food sovereignty within Indigenous communities.

All Festival goers can enjoy wood-fired pizzas, Indian tacos, roasted corn and more contemporary foods and beverages prepared by authentic Indigenous vendors which are available for onsite purchase throughout the weekend.

Established in Ottawa in 1996, and held annually, Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival (SSIF) is a multi-disciplinary arts festival that celebrates National Indigenous Peoples Day. The Festival is produced by Indigenous Experiences on behalf of the NIPD Committee, which comprises organizations representing Indigenous communities across Canada.
