The Pride Picnic In The Park Expects Highest Attendance to Date

Writer: Hayley CombaluzierHayley Combaluzier

There is much anticipation for one of Capital Pride's signature events, the annual Pride Picnic in the Park, thanks to new partnerships, new sponsors, and a favorable weather forecast. This year, Capital Pride and Ten Oaks Project will holding the family-‐friendly event with the added support of Loblaws who will be graciously providing help by donating the BBQ and food for the event, and having dietitians on hand to answer questions about healthy eating. Hintonburg Park (located behind the Hintonburg Community Center) will be filled today with LGBT+ families and their friends enjoying the summer weather, splash pad, play structures, and a free lunch. Various community groups will also be providing resources and entertainment. The Pride Picnic in the Park has always accepted all kinds of people of all ages to celebrate diversity and family. Capital Pride's focus and inclusion of young people and their families has been growing over the years and is especially apparent in 2013. This year, Capital Pride's youth committee and community, Etc., will be in the Pride Parade for the first time and the Kid's Can (an area where parents can leave their children supervised on site at Ottawa City Hall) will be transformed into an expanded family section with the help of Ten Oaks Project. Capital Pride expects even more young people and families to Be Loud and Be Proud thanks to safe(r) spaces and attractions like these. Join us in Hintonburg Park today at 4:00 p.m. and enjoy a free lunch, learn more about your community, and celebrate the diversity of LGBT+ families in Ottawa.   For further comments or questions, please contact: Hannah WattDirector of Youth and Families Capital Pride hannah@capitalpride.ca613-‐608-‐4554
