Legendary UK vocal ensemble’s new programme explores the long legacy of a capella music
The Tallis Scholars will bring together cultures and traditions spanning centuries when they return to Ottawa for the first time since 2017. They perform at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre on Dec. 9.
A long-time biennial winter tradition in Canada’s capital via Ottawa Chamberfest, the celebrated singers of a capella early music will expand their parameters this December. With the new programme Reflections, music director Peter Phillips draws inspiration from the similar and contrasting ways “composers who were poles apart in time and place may react to the same words.” Phillips, who celebrated 45 years at the helm last year, leads through a line-up ranging from quintessential Renaissance voices Tallis and Victoria to twentieth-century composer Francis Poulenc.

Ottawa Chamberfest brings together the boldest names in ensemble and solo performance for musical celebration in the nation’s capital, through its concert series, community engagement and education (CEE), and its summer festival. The world’s largest festival of its kind, Ottawa Chamberfest is a 2019 Festivals and Events (FEO) Ontario “Top 100” and winner of seven consecutive Lieutenant-Governor’s Awards for the Arts.
