Street Closures on Canada Day 2016

Canadian Heritage would like to inform residents and visitors that access to streets in the downtown core of Ottawa and Gatineau will be restricted during the Canada Day festivities on July 1, 2016. Only those displaying a circulation access pass, hotel patrons (with proof of hotel reservation) and emergency vehicles will be granted access to closed streets. Residents of the downtown area can enter by producing a driver's license as proof of residence. In order to fully enjoy activities offered throughout the day, Canadian Heritage encourages residents and visitors to travel to the celebration sites by public transit or by bicycle. Tips for commuting on July 1Canada Day Shuttle Bus: A free shuttle service will be offered between the Canadian Museum of History (Gatineau) and Major’s Hill Park (Ottawa), from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 1. Stop locations:

  • Gatineau: Laurier Street, in front of Jacques-Cartier Park

  • Ottawa: St. Patrick Street, between the National Gallery of Canada and Major’s Hill Park

Ride your bike to the celebrations

: Free supervised bike stations will be available at Major’s Hill Park and the Canadian Museum of History.

Use public transit

: take advantage of the service offered by the two service providers in Canada’s capital! The

Société de transport de l’Outaouais (STO)

will offer a shuttle service from the Parc-o-bus Centre Robert-Guertin to the Canadian Museum of History. Fare will be $3.90, with a free return trip. STO will offer free fare on its regular routes after 10 p.m. For more information, contact STO at 819-770-3242 or visit www.sto.ca.

OC Transpo
