The Sparks Street BIA and Mall Authority is pleased to present the debut of Impulse in Ottawa! Impulse is an interactive work of art consisting of multiple seesaws that activate with light and sound that changes in intensity when in motion. Fun for all ages, the units of light and musical tones are activated by the public to create an ever-changing composition. By playing on the seesaws, you create a dynamic light and sound wave, filling the street with magical glows and resonances. Impulse embodies ideas of serialism, repetition, and variation to produce zones of intensity and calm as an ever-changing urban event and an instrument in which the public becomes the musicians and artists. Only in Ottawa September 14th to October 6th, 2019, Impulse is open from 8:00am to 11:00pm each day. Impulse is located on Sparks Street between Kent Street and Lyon Street, just steps from the O-Train's Lyon Station.About Impulse Impulse is a creation by the Torontonian firm Lateral Office and CS Design, in collaboration with EGP Group from Montreal. Mitchell Akiyama created the sound design, Generique Design did the mechanical design and fabrication, and Robocut Studio formed the electronic design and fabrication. Impulse was first presented at the Place des Festivals in the Quartier des Spectacles, Montreal’s downtown cultural district, as part of the annual winter event, Luminothérapie in 2015-2016.
