The sixty-minute program is comprised of seven works, offering an array of different genres: documentary, drama, animation, experimental film and music video. This year’s program is reflective of the diverse community at SAW Video, with several of the selected artists using film and video to provide unique vantage points on a range of social-political issues. The program also shows the scope of experience levels of the centre’s membership, bringing together artists who have been producing work at SAW Video for decades with those who just made their first films last year. “In viewing the program, you will shift from a documentary to a silent abstract film to a booming hip hop music video in a matter of a few minutes, “ says SAW Video’s Director of Programming, Neven Lochhead of this program, “What I find unites the works is the same thing that unites our members at SAW Video, which is a commitment to improving and pushing their craft as filmmakers and artists, and an understanding of the important role that alternative media plays in sharing underrepresented stories and challenging ideas.” SAW Video’s community of over 230 members gains access year-round to the Centre’s production equipment, editing studios, and educational opportunities to independently produce their original videos of any genre, and other media art projects. The centre has been providing this service to Ottawa’s artistic community for over thirty-five years, and has supported the production of thousands of projects over the decades. SAW Video’s RESOLUTION 2017 Screening will take place on Friday, February 3rd at the Arts Court Theatre at 8PM, with a reception to follow.Click here for a list of selected works, artists’ bios and hi-res images.
