The Holiday is starting now: some of the capital region’s finest local music talent will perform a song a day from December 1 to December 24—an advent calendar for all who love music and want to get into the holiday mood with local musicians. “In Germany, the 24 days leading up to Christmas – the Advent – are all about anticipation of the feast to come. In the darkest time of the year, a little door opens every day on our advent calendar and brings us joy. It is a feeling we want to offer to everybody in this particularly difficult year.” says German Ambassador Sabine Sparwasser. “Bluesfest and its executive director, Mark Monahan, have been supporting many wonderful musicians in the Ottawa region. We are thrilled to join up with them for our ‘a song a day’ project, and we hope that many music lovers will enjoy great performances by local talent. Please check out your holiday song every morning, invite others to join - and have a safe and happy holiday.” International performing, multi-talented Ottawa musicians Angelique Francis and Kiran Francis (who have produced the Angelique Francis Band’s album titled “Kissed by the blues”, as well as several music videos) were brought on board to select and co-ordinate the talent, produce, direct, film, audio engineer, mix and master audio, edit footage, and provide animation services for the performances for release here: http://sogerman.ca/advent-calendar beginning December 1 and progressing daily, throughout the month, culminating with a final performance on December 24. “Angelique Francis is a perfect fit for this project,” says Monahan. “When setting out on this venture, hers was the first name that came to mind. Angelique is one of our Blues in the Schools instructors and recently put together a promotional video for the program. We were very impressed with the finished product.” The programming will include a wide variety of genres and a cast of multilingual performers who are as culturally diverse as the country they call home. The performances will include everything from German Christmas songs to Inuktitut throat singers, showcasing the wide range of music available in the Ottawa region, The featured artists are: Tarniriik; Kellylee Evans; Angelique Francis; Kristine St Pierre; Jamaal Jackson Rogers; Cara Gilbertson-Boese; Megan Laurence and Lucas Heneman; Catriona Sturton; Julie Corrigan; Rebecca Noelle; and Jeff Rogers & JW Jones. “Our aim is to present something exciting and entertaining for Christmas that will benefit music fans and musicians alike,” concludes Monahan. » List of videos on YouTube » Advent calendar information
