It is a truly special event that provides our community with the chance to unite and celebrate their hard work raising funds and awareness for Parkinson Society Eastern Ontario. Last year, 14,000 participants in over 95 cities and communities across the country organized Parkinson SuperWalk events, raising $2.7 million. Parkinson SuperWalk in Ottawa has grown to become the largest SuperWalk in Canada with more than 750 people in attendance. We are confident that we can grow the walk to more than 1,000 participants in Eastern Ontario, combined with significantly increased awareness and revenue over the next three years. In 2010, we passed our $1 million milestone – the total funds raised in Ottawa over a 15 year-period since our first walk. In 2012, we built on that momentum – raising an additional $168,000. And at our 2013 local area SuperWalks we surpassed that mark by raising $190,000 in eastern Ontario! Funds raised ensure that we can continue to deliver programs, services and research that create a better life and brighter future for more than 8,000 people living with Parkinson’s and their families. Currently, Parkinson Society Eastern Ontario has five SuperWalk locations in Brockville, Ottawa, Renfrew, Cornwall, and Embrun. Participants have the opportunity to walk in honour or in memory of someone affected by Parkinson’s. The event is a day of celebration – spending time with family and old friends, and a place to meet new friends too!
