Renowned professional theatre artist Peter Haworth, in collaboration with Theatre Wakefield, is in preparation to present a staged reading of Shakespeare's comedy, Twelfth Night. The event will take place outdoors at the Maison Fairbairn House amphitheatre at 45 chemin de Wakefield Heights, Wakefield, QC, Sunday, July 10th at 7pm. Bring a blanket or a chair and see Shakespeare as it was originally enjoyed – outdoors! Peter Haworth has spent time in his lengthy career thinking about why Shakespeare has been regarded as archaic and even impenetrable. He knew from his own experience and from watching performers capable of bringing clarity to the language that Shakespeare is, in fact, alive, fresh, and completely down-to-earth and modern. Inspired by this, he has worked on methodology and trained many theatre artists in achieving this lucidity. Friends and colleagues had been suggesting to Haworth that he carry on with this kind of work in the Wakefield area, where he is a recent transplant. So as a first step, he suggested to Theatre Wakefield a plan. He would direct a professional company of nine, working side by side with the same number of local amateur performers, to create a dazzling reading of Twelfth Night, bringing to the fortunate audience an evening of this clarity – as well as much hilarity and song – and also providing a terrific mentoring opportunity for the Wakefield Players group. Theatre Wakefield responded enthusiastically and the plan was put into effect. Haworth has cast a remarkable group of players, including Great Canadian Theatre Company's Artistic Director, Eric Coates, the new Artistic Director of a Company of Fools, Catriona Leger, and many of the region's top performers: Julie Le Gal, Jean-Michel Le Gal, Geoff McBride, David Whiteley, Laura Hall, Peter Froehlich, and Peter Haworth himself. The venue at Maison Fairbairn House is particularly pleasing to the director, as the acoustics effect of the back wall allows the actors to speak without having to shout, which is often a problem with outdoor performances. This staged reading of Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare will take place at the Maison Fairbairn House amphitheatre, 45 chemin de Wakefield Heights, in Wakefield, Quebec, Sunday, July 10th at 7pm. Admission is pay-what-you-can, with a suggested donation of $20. The other offerings in Theatre Wakefield's first Shakespeare Summer Season will be the award-winning Bear & Co production of Macbeth on July 23rd and a Company of Fools production of The Amazing Adventures of Pericles, Prince of Tyre on August 10th. Both of these shows are similarly at Maison Fairbairn House. In the case of inclement weather, the Twelfth Night staged reading will be at Centre Wakefield La Pêche, 38 Valley Drive in Wakefield.
