Ottawa’s food scene takes centre stage this winter with the launch of Taste Ottawa: Capital City Bites, a brand-new city-wide culinary initiative presented by Taste Ottawa, debuting for the first time during Winterlude, and graciously supported by Ottawa Tourism.

Designed to celebrate the capital’s vibrant dining scene, Taste Ottawa: Capital City Bites brings together over 50 participating restaurants, ranging from beloved neighbourhood coffee shops and cafés to elevated fine-dining destinations. The initiative invites residents and visitors alike to experience Ottawa through food while exploring the city during one of its most iconic seasonal festivals.

A highlight of the inaugural edition includes signature events hosted by culinary expert Irene Matys at EVOO Greek Kitchen and Ember, celebrating her internationally recognised cookbook, My Cypriot Table, which recently earned a World Gourmand Award. Known for her soulful approach to Cypriot cuisine, Matys’ involvement brings national and international culinary attention to Ottawa’s winter dining landscape.

“Taste Ottawa: Capital City Bites is about creating an experience that goes beyond the table,” said Steven Hellmann, Executive Director of Taste Ottawa. “We want people to skate the Rideau Canal, explore Winterlude’s activations, and then warm up by tasting their way around the city. This is about celebrating Ottawa’s food community while encouraging exploration, discovery, and local pride.”

As a first-year initiative, Taste Ottawa: Capital City Bites aims to establish a new annual culinary tradition, strengthening connections between restaurants, residents, and visitors while positioning Ottawa as a must-visit food destination, even in the heart of winter.
