Organizers today confirmed the start of the second annual Ottawa Palestinian festival held at Marion Dewar plaza in front of Ottawa city hall. This year’s festival promises to build of the huge success of last year and promises to be bigger, better and more fun. The festival highlights Palestinian culture including its music, food, dress, and hospitality. The festival runs all weekend from August 28th till the 30th from 11am to 11pm daily. This year the famous Jerusalem style bazaar or old souq will be bigger and better showcasing more then 20 vendors with a variety of different products from souvenirs to jewelry to traditional clothing. There will be henna artists on site as well as a calligraphy artist that will teach you to write your name in Arabic. The main stage this year will show case a variety of local and international artists that will entertain audiences with unique Palestinian and Arabic songs as well as debke performances. On both Saturday and Sunday night there will be a traditional Palestinian wedding performance. Sunday will showcase American-Palestinian comedian Amer Zaher with his funny and entertaining stand up routine. There is a verity of food options at the festival as well ranging from shawermas and kebabs to unique Palestinian dishes like musakhan. The desert area will have everyones favorites such as kunnafeh. Kids will find plenty to do with a kids area with jump castles and a face painter on site. A candle-making workshop will also be taking place. The Ottawa Palestinian Festival aims to showcase Palestinian culture in the heart of Ottawa in a beautiful colorful entertaining light. Event entrance is free and everyone is welcome.
