The Province has announced the recipients of 2014 Celebrate Ontario funding grants, and more than $2.6-million is being invested in 21 festivals and events taking place in Canada’s Capital Region. “This is a very important industry that is part of Ottawa’s identity as an amazing place to live and visit, and one largely driven by volunteers and not-for-profit organizations,” said John Brooman, Ottawa Festivals President, and CEO and President of Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival and the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation. “Tremendous positive benefits are realized,” continued Brooman, “from increased economic activity and tourism dollars, to greater access to culture and arts resulting in improved quality of life for our communities and neighbourhoods. We are very pleased to see this continued support from the Province of Ontario.” “Support from grants like Celebrate Ontario is a catalyst for other partnerships and programs that make our sector’s events and celebrations possible,” said Carole Anne Piccinin, Ottawa Festivals Executive Director. “We are excited to know that this grant will enhance our vital industry, while enabling citizens and visitors to better enjoy the National Capital Region and all it has to offer.” About Ottawa Festivals Ottawa Festivals is a not-for-profit member-based service organization that partners with the City of Ottawa, Province of Ontario and other industry stakeholders to deliver programs and services to help strengthen and sustain festivals, special events and fairs that take place in Canada’s Capital Region.
