On September 6, 2023, the Bachelor of Event, Sport and Entertainment Management Degree at Algonquin College welcomed the first cohort of students. This Honours Business degree is designed to cultivate expertise in event management, equipping students with the skills and knowledge to embark on careers across various sectors, including festivals and events.
A component of this unique degree will be real-world experience which includes two paid, four-month co-op placements ensuring that students gain practical, hands-on experience. For those interested, here is information about how to apply and potential grant opportunities.
Co-op Funding:
The Canada Summer Jobs grant is open till Dec. 19th (deadline) – (for Summer co-op). You can combine it with the $2500-3000 co-op Ontario tax incentive. You can apply without having yet selected a student and you can still post; the program will mark the job as dependent on funding.
Here’s a link to all funding for co-op. There’s also Ontario Chamber of Commerce and Magnet.
The program is still waiting on funders to indicate if there’s funding for summer. They may hear closer to Spring (Feb. or Mar.) about the funding in OCCC and Magnet.
Note - for Magnet you do not have to have a student in mind to apply for funding. For OCCC, you need to have a student you’re hiring in order to apply.
General Co-op Info:
4 months, paid, full time (30-40 hrs/wk), employer covers for workplace safety insurance (alternate workplace safety or WSIB) or 3rd party liability coverage
