NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR 5TH ANNUAL CAPITAL MUSIC AWARDS

HOST AND PERFORMERS ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, ON – March 20, 2024

– The Ottawa Music Industry Coalition is thrilled to announce the 5th Annual Capital Music Awards will take place on May 16, 2024 at the iconic Bronson Centre Music Theatre. Presented by Kinaxis with support from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa and Optimal Show Experience, the event is poised to ignite Ottawa’s music scene with another sure to be sold-out celebration that unites artists, music entrepreneurs, businesses and fans. As Ottawa's premier music industry gathering, this edition raises the bar yet again, honouring excellence in 13 categories and shining a spotlight on the exceptional talent, dedication, and innovation of artists, educators, and industry professionals. The evening will be hosted by JUNO Award-winning, multi-instrumentalist, multi-genre singer-songwriter and performer, Angelique Francis with performances by Angelique Francis Band, Pony Girl, Amanda Rheaume, J Morris and LeFLOFRANCO. The Lionyls will take the stage as the house band for the evening under the musical direction of Brian Asselin of The Commotions. “At The Capital Music Awards, we're proud to spotlight Ottawa’s vibrant music scene and the incredible talent within it,” comments Melanie Brulée, Executive Director of the Ottawa Music Industry Coalition. “The increase in Ottawa artists receiving nominations at the JUNOs this year, further provides evidence of the significant talent this city has to offer. These awards serve as a platform, propelling our artists onto the national stage and opening doors to new opportunities beyond our city’s borders while building Ottawa up as a Music City.” The Ottawa music scene’s tremendous growth trajectory is evidence of the city’s post-pandemic recovery. This can be seen through numerous channels. The City of Ottawa’s ongoing investment in the support of the local music community has been pivotal, not only to the rebuild of the capital’s nightlife, but to help it reach new heights as it strives towards designation as an internationally renowned Music City. In the past year, OMIC’s various programs, through the City of Ottawa’s financial endowment, have infused close to $200,000 to artists, sound technicians and live performance support staff. Through financial support from Kinaxis, OMIC has been able to curate special events like monthly live performances at Kinaxis’ headquarters, provide seed grants to the music sector and elevate the Capital Music Awards. All categories were vetted by juries composed of industry professionals. Five of the categories (denoted below) are open to the public, providing an opportunity for fans and industry peers alike to recognize their favourite artists and contributors. Public vote is open now until April 11. Vote now! ottawamic.com/nominees2024
