Brazilian guitar starts to make their first appearance in Canada's capital Feb. 11

OTTAWA
– True living legends will take the stage when internationally-loved guitarists Assad Brothers present their classical blend of Europe and South America Sat. Feb. 11 at Dominion-Chalmers United Church. Lauded by audiences and publications alike across the world for their two-of-a-kind approach to classical guitar, Sérgio and Odair Assad have previously performed with Yo-Yo Ma and the LA Philharmonic. In February, the duo will draw from a repertoire developed over 50 years, which includes Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, for whom the brothers were a muse. Other composers on the programme are Scarlatti, Debussy, and Villa Lobos. The Assad Brothers’ performance is part of 2016-17 Chamberfest Concert Series and the Guitare Alla Grande festival. Guitare Alla Grande
The Guitare Alla Grande festival, now in its 12th edition, was founded to promote classical guitar in the national Ottawa-Gatineau region while providing a rich pedagogical experience for the area’s guitar students. Each festival features a headliner artist, who is a performer of international stature, Canadian and local guitarists, concerts by the guest artists as well as the participating students, master classes, lectures, and a luthier fair. A classical guitar enthusiast’s dream come true.
