Magnetic North Theatre Festival, Canada’s national theatre festival showcasing some of the best Canadian talent is pleased to welcome a new managing director. Today, the festival will welcome Nancy Oakley, a renowned not-for-profit leader from the Ottawa region. For over 25 years, Nancy has worked in the not-for-profit sector in strategic planning, operations, project management, revenue generation, financial and risk management, human resources, and governance as a presenter and producer in the performing arts sector. In Ottawa, she has led the Great Canadian Theatre Company (GCTC), the Canada Dance Festival and Passionate Balance Theatre Company, as well as the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre in the Northwest Territories. Magnetic North’s Artistic Director, Brendan Healy, says “Nancy is a proven leader. Her professional experience and her connection to both the Ottawa and national communities will be an extraordinary asset to the Festival. We are fortunate to be working with Nancy as we steer MNTF into its next chapter.” As a graduate of the University of Ottawa with a bachelor’s degree in theatre, Nancy’s background makes her an ideal fit for Magnetic North Theatre Festival. She is also a graduate of the Income Managers Program conducted by Genovese, Vanderhoof and Associates, in conjunction with the Centre for Cultural Management at the University of Waterloo and Orchestras Canada, during which time she interned at the Guelph Spring Festival and the National Ballet of Canada. “Nancy’s experience and knowledge in the arts space and not-for-profit sector will prove extremely valuable to Magnetic North as the festival looks to grow across the country and throughout the theatre space,” says Magnetic North Board Chairman, Michael Hawkes. When asked how she feels about joining the Magnetic North team, Nancy says, “It is a real honour to be joining Brendan and the whole team. I am looking forward to being part of the positive momentum and growth for Canadian theatre artists and arts organizations.” The 2017 festival launch is March 14 in the Studio at the National Arts Centre. Please join us to meet Brendan and Nancy, and hear the exciting line up for this year’s Ottawa festival being held from June 16-25. About Magnetic North Theatre Festival Founded in 2002, MNTF is Canada’s only national theatre festival. Every year, we showcase some of the best in contemporary, Canadian theatre from across the country. The festival’s headquarters are located on the traditional unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishnaabeg people, commonly known as Ottawa. In addition to the performances themselves, MNTF also features an Industry Series that allows theatre artists, producers, and presenters from across Canada and around the world to gather and exchange. Over the years, our Industry Series has grown into one of the most important marketplaces for Canadian theatre.
