Join us to watch the Sochi 2014 Opening Ceremony, at Winterlude in Ottawa!

CBC/Radio-Canada invites you to watch a live broadcast of the Sochi 2014 Opening Ceremony, at 10:30 a.m. on February 7 in Ottawa’s Confederation Park. The bilingual celebration taking place at Confederation Park will be hosted by CBC News Ottawa anchor Lucy van Oldenbarneveld and Téléjournal Ottawa-Gatineau anchor Mathieu Nadon. The Opening Ceremony of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be aired for spectators on a giant screen, alternating between English and French broadcasts. Jim Watson, Mayor of Ottawa, and councillor Daniel Champagne (Versant district) a representative for the City of Gatineau, will be on hand to meet and greet members of the public. Also present on site will be Calgary 1988 Olympic figure skating silver medalist Elizabeth Manley, as well Ole Sorensen, former Munich 1972 Olympic wrestler. Mr. Sorensen is the father of Cody Sorensen who is currently in Sochi competing in the Bobsled competition. Finally the event will also include the participation of biathlon and cross-country ski athlete Caroline Bisson, who will find out on February 11 if she qualifies to compete in her first Paralympic Games. Spectators will hear, via video testimonials, from speed skaters Ivanie Blondin and Vincent De Haître, curler Dawn McEwen, as well as from two reporters who will share the role they’ll play in Sochi– CBC Ottawa’s Sports Reporter Dan Séguin and ICI Ottawa-Gatineau’s Sports Reporter Jonathan Jobin. The public is invited for photo opportunities with a Sochi 2014 backdrop ; the Vancouver Olympic torch; and the Ice Hog family.
