Ottawa’s, 2014 Capital Pride Parade takes place on Sunday, August 24th beginning at 1pm. The parade is expected to attract over 75,000 festival goers including more than 250 OCDSB representatives. This will be the third year that OCDSB Trustees, administrators, teachers and support staff will walk alongside students, families, neighbours, and friends in support of the GLBTTQ community. The OCDSB is dedicated to providing a welcoming environment to parents, students, and staff in all our schools. Cultural diversity is an important part of our community and is contributing to the growth and vibrancy of Ottawa. As a District, we value, embrace, and encourage diversity in our schools believing that it builds a stronger community and contributes to learning and growth. We are proud to teach, live, and share the things that we have in common while celebrating what makes us unique. Join us again this year and demonstrate that the OCDSB is a safe, caring, and inclusive organization! Everyone is welcome to participate. However, it is important to note that this is not a school based event and NO supervision of students is provided. Similarly no transportation of students to and from the event will be provided. Although the Parade starts at 1pm (ends at 3pm) - those wishing to walk with OCDSB representatives are asked to meet at the corner of Gladstone and Bank Street at 12pm. The parade travels through downtown ending at City Hall. Participants are encouraged to wear purple with rainbow accessories. Let's walk together to let Ottawa know that at the OCDSB everyone is welcome! The mission of the Capital Pride Festival is to perpetuate the spirit of pride in the gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, two-spirited and questioning (GLBTTQ) community in Canada’s National Capital Region of Ottawa–Gatineau. Ottawa’s first gay pride celebration was a picnic in Strathcona Park in June of 1986 and attended by about 50 people. This year’s festivities which take place from August 15-24 is expected to attract over 75,000 people. For more information visit capitalpride.ca.
