(Who knew bears liked Kraft Diner?) What happens when it’s just you against the wilderness in the days before cell phones? What happens if you run out of food? If you lose your clothes? If one of your party goes missing? If your guide-dog senses her feral roots? Join us for tales of camping and working at camps in Canada that are humorous, poignant, and thought-provoking. But even as a young girl, she was always up for a challenge, “so YMCA Camp, here I come!”, and each day, while traveling through the camp, she learned the power of a good story to keep the kids within earshot and out of trouble. Mostly. And she has been entertaining audiences of all ages ever since. Kim has performed at festivals, on the NAC Fourth Stage, and at venues large and small as a professional storyteller for more than 10 years. Her one woman show “Flying in the dark” has been a great hit with audiences for more than 2 years. Kim is also a co-host of CKCU’s “Welcome to My World”, a program that aims to change the conversation and views about disability. It airs every Tuesday from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at 93.1 FM! In recent years Jeff has merged his twin passions – for storytelling and for teaching – into a travelling series of “Character Education” shows grounded in Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey. Jeff performs four-hour long “Epic Tellings of Greek Epic” to auditoriums of teenagers in schools across the region. His goal is always first captivate his audience with the story, then to call their attention to the universal human experiences revealed in Homer’s timeless tales. Jeff considers himself 1/3 teacher, 1/3 teller and 1/3 stand-up comic. When not storytelling and developing lesson plans to support his Character Education shows Jeff’s passions include canoe tripping with his lovely wife, hanging out in the gym, cooking, reading and consuming good whiskey. This performance will feature Jeff telling four of his favourite stories from the eleven tales in his “Canoe Trip” package.
