GCTC Artistic Director takes to the mainstage to present new plays and new partnerships for 2014-2015

At 7:30 pm Artistic Director, Eric Coates took to the mainstage at the Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre to host a lively presentation introducing the new plays and new partnerships for the 2014-2015 season. Next season is also GCTC’s 40th anniversary of producing…well…great Canadian theatre.  Coates, known for his passion for programming Canadian playwrights and developing new works, says the theme for next season is simply great theatre.  The new season, subscription and ticket information were posted on GCTC‘s website at the same time along with a video of Eric Coates introducing the new season.  www.gctc.ca The 2014-2015 season offers an all-Canadian line up with three world premieres and three Ottawa premieres. Two of the plays were developed in association with GCTC and are world premieres.  They are , written by Emil Sher based on the book by Ian Brown and of  GCTC presents Nightswimming(Ottawa premiere) (world premiere) written, choreographed and performed by Anita Majumdar. From Vancouver, production of is written by George F. Walker (Ottawa premiere).  In February, the comedy keeps coming with by Daniel MacIvor(Ottawa premiere). To complete the season, GCTC produces written by Jennifer Brewin, Haley McGee, Sarah McVie and Amy Rutherford, and co-developed with Toronto’s Theatre Columbus.  is presented in association with the Magnetic North Theatre Festival.  The plays are listed below. Along with a preview of the six plays, Coates had some other important news to share about community partnerships. GCTC’s indie festival, follows festival director, Patrick Gauthier, to the ’s fifth season will take place at Arts Court in February 2015. Coates added “GCTC needs to put more resources into our mainstage work. Moving to the allows us to support the evolution of the festival scene while focusing on our core work.” Coates then announced that is moving into the Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre as a new Associate Company.  Led by Artistic Directors Renata Soutter and Shara Weaver, is an integrated dance company, comprised of disabled and able-bodied dancers.  The company will create and rehearse new works in GCTC’s Studio Theatre, culminating in a mainstage dance production in May 2015. With the mentorship of Cube Gallery, GCTC created a new position for the last year. Malika Welsh, a University of Ottawa arts student, will continue to present unique exhibitions that reflect and interpret themes from the plays.  The art exhibitions create a vibrant dialogue between two artistic disciplines; theatre and fine art. ` is located on the second floor of the Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre (GCTC).
