Celebrating the Best of European Cinema in Ottawa Since 1984, The Canadian Film Institute (CFI), the Delegation of the European Union to Canada, and the Member States of the European Union are proud to present the 28th European Union Film Festival (EUFF), launching November 14th and continuing until December 1st. “The European Union Film Festival is a unique occasion for Canadians to experience European cinema," says European Union Ambassador Marie-Anne Coninsx. "The Festival is a celebration of Europe's rich and diverse film heritage.” This year’s Festival features international, award-winning, and Oscar-submitted films from 27 countries across the European Union, presented in their original languages with English subtitles. Special guests welcomed this year include Tahar Rahim, lead actor from the Cannes-selected Grand Central (France), as well as Matthias Drescher, producer of Germany’s acclaimed Shifting the Blame. As in past years, a number of festival evenings will be introduced with exclusive video greetings from filmmakers or actors, and many of the films are followed by complimentary Embassy receptions. All of the films shown are Ottawa premieres. The 2013 edition of the EUFF is also pleased to include Night Boats, the first Croatian film to be shown at the Festival, following Croatia’s entry into the European Union this past summer. “This year, the EUFF has an amazing selection of films,” says Tom McSorley, Executive Director of the Canadian Film Institute. “The line-up is particularly outstanding with some of the highest quality films we’ve ever had. It’s an excellent sampling of the extraordinary talent that European cinema has to offer.” Each screening will take place at the Auditorium of the Library and Archives Building, 395 Wellington St., in Ottawa. All tickets and passes are available at the door every night of the festival: $12 for the general public and $8 for members, seniors, and students. Five-film passports are also available to CFI members for $35. Memberships are offered at $15 for a year’s subscription. Visit www.euff.ca or www.cfi-icf.ca for complete film lineup. The Canadian Film Institute (CFI) was incorporated in 1935 as a federally-chartered, non-governmental, non-profit cultural organization. It is the oldest film institution in Canada and the second oldest film institute in the world. More information can be found online at www.cfi-icf.ca. Established in 1976, the European Union Delegation to Canada is a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and maintains an open dialogue with different sectors of the Canadian society by engaging in various public diplomacy activities designed to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the European Union as well as EU-Canada relations among Canadians.
