2:00 – MEET THE ARTISTS OF S.P.A.R.Q. (NEW EDINBURGH HOUSE-COMMUNITY ROOM)
S.P.A.R.Q. (the “Sparqs”)

is a group of artists who promote an aesthetic outlook on life (an ‘artful life’), by suspending culture-based and personal beliefs and prejudices. This is meant to open the mind to a sensed world (“coming to our senses”), and also to allow the subconscious to combine and associate things that would normally not be combined, leading to innovative thinking, acting and experiencing. A group of Sparqs will present their biographies together with images of things, places, events and people that influenced their art. The bios will be embedded in performance art, i.e. a Cuban performance artist will cut the artist’s hair and will moderate questions from the audience. Some original work of the participating artists will be on display at the show.

3:30 – 5:00 PM CONNECT DANCE (MEMORIAL HALL)
Connect Dance

is a contemporary dance company that aims to promote the art of dance within the community through its performances and educational initiatives. Founded in 2012 by Claire Berry, the company performs and hosts classes and workshops in the Ottawa area. The group will teach a 45 minute dance class open to young students who are interested in learning the contemporary dance style performed by the company. Following that will be a demonstration of the company’s dances that we are preparing for an upcoming show. An audience is welcome to observe a brief rehearsal process following the performance.  ccdo.org

5:00 – 6:30 PM THE OTTAWA STILT UNION (MEMORIAL HALL)

The group will demonstrate some of the tools we use to create performance: stilts, partner balancing, masks, singing and live sound effects. Interested members of the public will have the opportunity to try it themselves. All ages welcome. ottawastiltunion.ca
