After careful and thoughtful consultation and consideration, Crackup Ottawa Comedy Festival is listening to the Chinese community and will be postponing the “Dashan and Friends Chinese Comedy Show” until further notice. The festival and all other shows will continue to run as planned. “Many in the community were excited to participate in this first-ever event for Ottawa-born Dashan,” said John Helmkay, director of Crackup. “Though Ottawa Public Health maintains the risk for COVID-19 in Ottawa is low, we have decided out of respect for the Chinese community that now is not the time for us to present this significant occasion in Ottawa.” The event was scheduled for Thursday, March 26. Full refunds will be issued. As a long-time supporter of mental health, Crackup believes in the power of laughter. The festival invites and encourages the public to come to join in and support the Chinese community and others affected by COVID-19. Crackup will be adhering to Ottawa Public Health recommendations to assure patrons' safety. “We also encourage those that may be feeling ill to stay home,” said Helmkay. “If you fall ill before the show, and you have already bought a ticket, we will be happy to issue you a full refund.” Crackup continues to support the Wuhan University Alumni Association of Ottawa (WUAAO) to help address Ottawa’s mental health needs around COVID-19 fears and will donate ten per cent of all ticket sales to their fundraising efforts.
