Chamberfest City Series to feature Ottawa artists including Yolanda Bruno and De La Salle choirs
Ottawa Chamberfest's annual free noontime concert series at City Hall begins April 26 with a performance by sisters, string musicians, and rising stars Yolanda and Carmen Bruno.
Featuring regional artists both amateur and professional, the City Series brings artists and audiences together to celebrate and showcase performers with ties to the National Capital Region.

One of CBC’s Hot Canadian Classical Musicians under 30, Ottawa’s Yolanda Bruno and sister Carmen Bruno keep it in the family, with a programme that puts the spotlight on the dynamic relationship between the violin and the cello. Beginning with Ravel’s pensive Sonata for Violin and Cello, the Brunos’ programme continues eastward, exploring diverse duets from contemporary Eastern European composers.

Recognized across Canada for his reputation for drawing excellence and emotion from young artists, choral director Robert Filion leads two student choirs from École secondaire publique De La Salle: L’Ensemble vocal senior De La Salle and Chorale De La Salle. Their wide-ranging vocal program is unlimited by time and place, including pieces from the Renaissance to world music.

“To walk in dancing steps so as to make the ankle-bells tinkle.” Carleton University’s Vinay Bhide explores the cultural array of Indian vocal music – from classical to folk, from the sensuous to the mesmerizing. Bhide is joined by his students from Carleton University.

Pianist John Dapaah follows his Chamberfest debut, at the Chamber Pints bar series for 35-and-unders, by closing our City Series with works by two of piano’s best-loved Romantic composers: Schubert and Chopin. Featuring pieces as familiar and fluid under his fingertips as water, Dapaah’s programme includes Chopin’s rippling and passionate Ballade No. 3 in A flat major.
