Celebrating Canada Day Downtown? Here’s What’s Going On!

is fast approaching, which means Canada Day 2018 festivities are just around the corner! Are you planning on heading downtown to celebrate in the heart of the Capital? Be sure not to miss any of the festivities happening in the heart of the city this year! The big 150 may have passed, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be awesome events to attend. If you’re getting in on one of the biggest Canada Day celebrations in the country, you won’t want to miss any of these great events taking place!

ConcertsVarious Venues

What would a celebration be without live music? There will be a ton of musical performances and concerts all throughout downtown on July 1

st

. Celebrate Canada Day by catching the last day of the TD Ottawa Jazz Festival, with performances taking place in Confederation Park and in front of City Hall. Hitting the stages at Parliament Hill and Major’s Hill Park include star-studded names like Ruth B., Arkells and Lights, to name a few. Not convinced? Concerts at Parliament Hill and Major’s Hill Park are FREE, though a security check will be required before entry. Museums Various Venues

Want to take part in some fun Canada Day activities while also learning something new? Then you’ll be delighted to know that there are a number of museums around the downtown area that are absolutely FREE to everyone on July 1

  • Bytown Museum (10:00am – 5:00pm)

  • Bank of Canada Museum (10:00am – 5:00pm)

  • Royal Canadian Mint (9:00am – 5:00pm)

  • Canadian Museum of History (9:00am – 9:00pm)

  • Canadian War Museum

Along with free access to the museums (may exclude some special exhibits), there will also be special Canada Day events taking place on site! Head over to the Bank of Canada Museum or the Royal Canadian Mint to strike your very own limited-edition coin or embark on a historical and artistic scavenger hunt at the National Gallery of Canada. And that’s only naming a few! You’ll have to get out and

MosaïCulture Jacques-Cartier Park, Gatineau, until October 15 2018

To celebrate Canada 150, giant living sculptures moved into Jacques-Cartier Park in Gatineau, just across the river from downtown Ottawa. This year, the massive leafy displays have made their way back to the park and will be standing tall to please the masses of festivalgoers! These colourful statues and displays tell the rich history and culture of our beloved True North and is an amazing way to celebrate Canada’s Birthday. Living Flag CF Rideau Centre Rooftop, 9:30am – 11:30am

First living statues, now a living flag? No joke! Come feel alive atop the CF Rideau Centre with hundreds of fellow Canadians to create a living human Canada flag. There will be refreshments            and live music, including a chance to sing that national anthem with everyone taking part. Preregister online to reserve your spot and get your commemorative t-shirt, or just bring a camera and come to watch it all unfold. Hope to see you #GetFestive Ottawa! Fireworks Over the Ottawa River, 10:00pm

A classic and awe-inspiring way to end festivities with a bang! Close off Canada Day by kicking back and watching the sparkling pyrotechnic show over the Ottawa River. Some of the best places to watch include Major’s Hill Park and the Canadian Museum of History. Join thousands of fellow Canadians around the river to take in Canada Day 2018’s last hurrah!
