Budding Newfoundland singing star takes the She's the One title

RBC Bluesfest organizers today announced the winner of their 20

th

anniversary edition of the She's the One Emerging Female Artist Competition, sponsored by Jump! 106.9. The winner is

Emma Peckford

, who put in a stunning performance to edge out some very heady challengers.

Emma is a 15 year-old singer-songwriter-guitarist from Corner Brook, Newfoundland. She began singing at four years old and started playing guitar when she was seven. Her first public performance outside of her church was at the Trails, Tales and Tunes folk festival in Norris Point, Gros Morne National Park in 2012, and she has been a regular ever since. Other finalists included: Jheo, Abby Stewart, Angelique Francis, Ezra Lewis, Justice Tremblay, Olivia, Ria Jade, Stephanie La Rochelle, and Taylor Angus. The competition is a cross-Canada talent search for the best in emerging Canadian female music talent. With the help of Corus Entertainment, Bluesfest was looking to discover promising young female Canadian singers. As part of this year’s special 20th Anniversary edition, organizers zeroed in on the best emerging ‘teenage’ female singers in Canada.  “We were looking for one special young artist with an incredible voice backed up by a moving live performance,” says RBC Bluesfest ‘She's the One’ coordinator Ana Miura.”We definitely found that in Emma.” "We very aware that there's an incredible amount of undiscovered female vocal talent in Canada," says Bluesfest's executive and artistic director, Mark Monahan. "This year’s She’s the One competition certainly proved that to be true. This should be a huge boost for Emma’s career!"

The Prize Package

: RBC Bluesfest will provide Emma with a whirl-wind, career-building trip to Los Angeles to work with top LA-based music producer Barrett Yeretsian (Jar of Hearts, Christina Perri). They’ll record a song at the legendary Sunset Sound Recording Studio and take part in a star makeover photo-shoot and music tutorial prior to filming a Hollywood-style music video, courtesy of Popmania! In addition to the opportunity of a lifetime, the winner will walk away with a guitar from Daisy Rock Girl Guitars.
