The QVBIA is proud to announce that we have secured an Artist in Residency this summer. He is none other than critically acclaimed local artist Christopher Griffin. His concrete animal sculptures are seen in several parts of the city. Chris will be creating several bales of turtles along Montreal Rd, McArthur Rd and Beechwood Av. this summer. These turtles are currently being produced by members of the Vanier community, young and old, some whom have lived in Vanier for 60+ years and some who arrived to Canada weeks ago. We will create over 1500 this summer that will then live amongst us. “We are so honoured that Chris chose to share his unique vision with our community. We believe that communities thrive through the arts. It’s vital to us that we begin to see the streets of Vanier as places for wonder and imagination.” said Nathalie Carrier, Executive Director of the Quartier Vanier BIA. Additionally, the artwork of Barbara Verner will be hung at four locations on Beechwood Ave this week – at the Royal Oak, the Chartwell New Edinburgh Residence, the Bridgehead, and on the Domicile building near Sutherland’s. This artwork was commissioned in the fall as part of the Better Beechwood Initiative, a collaboration of the QVBIA and Councillor Tobu Nussbaum. And more: The QVBIA will be hosting Mozaik a FREE festival of Art, Music, Food and Dance. The event will take place at 250 Montreal Rd (corner of Bégin) on Aug 11th from 12pm to 9pm. This collaboration with House of PainT will see live street-art being produced, dance crews, DJ’s, music and more. Artists like Juno Award winner Risen Ashe, Ottawa’s best dance party Timekode, Vanier resident Aspect, Sam Faye and D-Track, DJ Jas Nasty, world renowned Montreal street performers LaboKracBoom. Local designers, artists and crafters will line our Artist Walk and tons of community organizations.
