The Artistic Committee, under the capable direction of Nathalie Cleroux, announced the headliners for the 2016 Almonte Celtfest at the Organizing Committee meeting on January 4th. In celebration of our 20th anniversary this year, you won't want to miss any of these three nationally and internationally acclaimed bands; Friday Pub Night at the Main Stage in Gemmill Park, Le Vent Du Nord; Saturday Main Stage, Coig; Sunday Main Stage, Vishten. Learn more about each at their websites, but here are some of the highlights of each band's bio: Le Vent Du Nord Considered a driving force in progressive folk, Le Vent du Nord delivers catchy songs and tunes, some taken from the Québec traditional folk repertoire while others are original compositions. Since its founding in 2002, this quartet has become compelling Francophone ambassadors, winning critical acclaim and audience adoration across Europe, Oceania and America. This group has a rich and varied instrumentation, well-polished musical arrangements, and wonderful vocals. Coig CÒIG (Ko-ig) is an exciting ensemble of East Coast musicians, and is one of Cape Breton’s most captivating young bands. Originally formed for a promotional tour for the Celtic Colours International Festival, the group found energy to continue touring with their driving tunes, haunting songs and infectious energy. Their much anticipated debut album "Five" was released in June, 2014 to rave reviews, and has earned the band the 2014 Canadian Folk Music Award for Traditional Album of the Year. Most recently, they were recognized with the 2015 East Coast Music Award for Roots/Traditional Group Recording of the Year. Vishten Since forming in 2000, Vishtèn has become one of the most exciting folk bands on the international music scene. From the Vancouver Winter Olympics to the Newport Folk Festival, Les Printemps de Pérouges in France and Festival International de Louisiane to Woodbury Folk Festival in Australia, Vishtèn has won over audiences of all sizes. With inspiration, deep respect, and a love for the sounds and rhythms forged by the musicians who came before them, Vishtèn continues to reinterpret the music of their parents, all the while creating a future heritage of new music. Opening for Coig will be our own widely acclaimed Fiddler in Residence, Cindy Thompson. Almonte Celtfest takes place July 8-10, 2016 at Gemmill Park, Almonte Ontario.
