For students looking for a career in events, sports or entertainment, Algonquin College is offering an exciting new degree program that hits the mark. “The Bachelor of Event, Sport and Entertainment Management (Honours) Degree program, a first in Canada, will expand offerings and highlight the School of Hospitality and Tourism,” said Claude Brulé, President and CEO of Algonquin College. “Launching in Fall 2023, it will combine unique skills for those who want to learn the strategic business elements involved in selecting and executing events of all types." As the only Canadian business degree specializing in Event Management, this unique program prepares students to enter the lucrative sports, entertainment and event management industry with the skills and experience to design, manage and execute a wide range of events at local, national, and international levels. “This four-year honours degree program prepares students for a career in event management at local, national and international levels, involving entertainment, sport, corporate, tourism, travel, business, non-profit, politics, art, special events, culture and fashion,” said Michael Tarnowski, Chair, Algonquin College’s School of Hospitality and Tourism. “With the rapid globalization of the event industry, the scale and complexity of today`s events require the expertise of trained event management professionals. Students acquire the event management skills necessary to design, project manage and execute a wide range of small to large-scale events, impacting participants and audiences worldwide.” The program will include two paid four-month (local, national, or international) co-op placements and will provide students with hands-on practice while networking with, and learning from, industry experts. A culminating project will challenge learners to design, plan and execute a live event with an industry client, thus enabling them to integrate practical, real-world experience with the theoretical learning acquired throughout the program. Graduates may find career opportunities for-profit, government and non-profit sectors in various event management roles. Graduates are qualified for entry-level positions to design, plan and execute events. Employers include trade shows, festivals, sports organizations, charities, non-governmental agencies, government, entertainment companies, corporate companies, non-profit organizations, event planning companies, academic institutions and hospitals. Information about the program is currently available on the College website and applications will start being October 3, 2022.
