[ Press release] May 14, 2013 – Maestro David Currie and the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra are pleased to announce the OSO’s exciting 2013-2014 season, A Night at the Symphony. A season high on drama, mystery and passion, with works by Gershwin, Britten, Kancheli, Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev on the program, and a number of inspiring solo artists to be featured, it is one Ottawa audiences will not want to miss. The season will open on October 7, 2013 with An American in Paris, a one-night-only escape through the music of Gershwin and Ravel, to when Paris and les années folles were all the rage. Audiences will be transported back in time to experience the energy, the romance and the excitement of the era. On November 25, 2013, the OSO will honour the 100th anniversary of the birth of English composer Benjamin Britten with Britten’s Britain, a concert celebrating the music of twentieth-century England, while the third concert of the season, Death and Transfiguration (February 17, 2014), will see the OSO exploring the divide between life and death through the works of Strauss, Liszt and Kancheli. This concert will also feature the Ottawa Choral Society. From life and death to Faith and Fate – on March 24, 2014, Ottawa audiences can join the OSO in exploring the music that delves into the mysteries of Fate and the power of the Divine. And finally on May 12, 2014 celebrate life, passion and the endurance of humankind with one last, rousing performance by the OSO, Whirlwind, featuring the exciting and triumphant music of the Carmen Fantasy and Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5.
