St. Xenia Russian Orthodox Church in Kanata is honored to host its lively and popular festival of Russian culinary heritage, art and music. Celebrated in the spirit of the traditional pre-Lenten Russian winter carnival called Maslenitsa (or Butter Week) it's like Ottawa's Winterlude with a high-stepping Slavic kick! A traditional Table d'hote featuring stacks of bliny crepes (gluten-free upon request) with caviar, smoked salmon, drawn butter, sour cream and other delicacies will be served followed by a rich buffet dessert table. • Auctions of art and objet d'art as well as an exciting loud auction featuring a guided fishing trip, custom portrait painting, and Russian cooking classes for you and your friends. A portion of these proceeds will go to the Kanata Food Cupboard. • Sparkling wine in the spirit of the Tsars, Russian beer direct from St. Petersburg, traditional Kvas and unique chilled vodkas. • Live gypsy music, sing-a-longs, folk dancing, and vodka toasts for your friends all in a joyous and relaxed atmosphere. • Tours of our Orthodox church rich with traditional Byzantine architecture, iconography and frescos upon request. For almost a quarter of a century, the St. Xenia Bliny carnival remains the original and best Maslenitsa event in Ottawa. It will satiate the food lover and charm them with song and dance!
