Public Invited to Compete in Open Race on World-Class Urban Course in Ottawa. The 2013 ITU (International Triathlon Union) Duathlon World Championships has partnered with Ottawa Tourism and TrojanOne Ltd. to present the Sens Shuffle, a 5km charity run in support of the Sens Foundation. The event will be held on Saturday, August 10, as part of the race weekend taking place in Ottawa from August 8 to 10. Open to the general public, $6 of the $55 race entry will support the Sens Foundation, whose aim is to raise funds in communities throughout eastern Ontario and western Quebec. Monies raised will focus on providing social recreation and education programs and facilities that promote physical and mental wellness. In addition, racers are encouraged to collect pledges of which 100% of the donation will go to the Sens Foundation. With the option to run, jog or walk, Sens Shuffle participants will get to experience a one-of-a-kind race course located in Canada's Capital City, Ottawa. The course starts in front of the Canadian War Museum and heads west along the Ottawa River into a loop on the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway. Closed to traffic, racers will enjoy the picturesque views and the city's landmarks from the world-class course. Interested participants are encouraged to register before August 7. "The ITU Duathlon World Championships is very proud to partner with the Sens Foundation. It is exciting to incorporate an open race for the public on a world-class course," says Norm O'Reilly, Race Chair. "The Sens Foundation is a well-known fixture in the Ottawa Community, and with their commitment to enable positive life changes for children in the Ottawa area and beyond, is the perfect match for the ITU Duathlon World Championships." "We're extremely pleased to be the supported charity of the ITU Duathlon World Championships," said Danielle Robinson, President, Sens Foundation. "With the Sens Shuffle we hope to raise awareness and funds for the more than one in five children in our community who live in poverty and lack access to social recreation and educational programs and facilities." Athletes from across the globe are set to gather in Ottawa to participate in the ITU Duathlon World Championships running August 8 to 10, 2013. Qualified men and women from 40 countries will compete in the Elite U23, Elite Junior, Age Group (18-70+) and Paraduathlon races for the World Championships, as a part of the World Games. The ITU Duathlon World Championships course has both standard (10km run, 40km cycle, 5km run) and sprint distance (5km run, 20km cycle, 2.5km run) courses. In addition to the championship races and the Sens Shuffle 5km charity run, the ITU has partnered with Ottawa Tourism and TrojanOne Ltd. to create an open sprint distance Duathlon race available to the general public.
