Wakefield International Film Festival Shakes up Screening Schedule

Writer: Hayley CombaluzierHayley Combaluzier

Wakefield International Film Festival (WIFF) organizers announced today that they have revamped the growing documentary festival's schedule. In so doing, each film will now play twice instead of once and the festival will now take place over four weekends, instead of seven consecutive Sundays, giving WIFF more of a festival feel, rather than a film series. WIFF 2014 will run from February 15th to March 9th. Each weekend, two films will show on both Saturday and Sunday. The two films will 'switch times' over the two days. For example, if Film A screens at 5pm on Saturday and Film B screens at 7:30pm, then on Sunday Film B will screen at 5pm and Film A will screen at 7:30pm. Should someone wish to see a double bill, they are able to do that on either the Saturday or the Sunday on each of the four weekends. If someone likes to view films at 5pm, they can attend on both Saturday and Sunday each weekend and see two different films. Likewise, a person interested in seeing films a little later will be able to attend at 7:30pm each night and see the two different films. An extra perk with these changes is that WIFF is able to show another documentary in its schedule. Final selections are being made and negotiations with filmmakers are being finalized for the 2014 WIFF lineup. The complete program will be announced next week. And not everything is changing! WIFF's low ticket price of $10 per show remains the same. Wakefield International Film Festival, now in its fifth year, offers a selection of the very best of current documentary films, from Canada and from around the world. It has made a name for itself through its tremendous programming and through 'value-added' events such as talkbacks with film directors. For 2014, the screenings take place February 15th to March 9th, in The Great Hall at the Wakefield LaPêche Community Centre, 38 Valley Drive, Wakefield, QC. Showtimes are 5pm and 7:30pm. -- 30 -- For more information, please contact Melanie Willis 613.699.3745 or artzenjammer@gmail.com.
