A Sense of Wonder: Architects of Air Returns to the 2015 OICF with Pentalum, a celebration of the beauty of geometry.

OttawaInternationalChildrensFest-848

Open for just six days, Pentalum is a labyrinth of light which invites visitors to experience a unique, hands-on exhibit of light sculptures. The Ottawa International Children’s Festival requires a dedicated team of stewards while Pentalum is open to the public. Stewards are paid $11/hour and are granted free access to all shows when they are not scheduled to work. Drawing inspiration from cathedrals and mosques, geometrical figures and celestial bodies, these labyrinths (or “luminaria”) have demonstrated broad cross-cultural appeal in their visits to 40 countries across 5 continents. Each is an original design, the principal difference between the luminaria being found in the rendering of their domes and in the layout of their tunnels. For nearly an hour I explored my environment in a light that appeared liquid in nature. It constantly blended, radiated, resonated, and transformed my surroundings. The calming effect of the structure was unlike anything I have experienced. Maya Gonzales Berry, Visitor in Perth - November 2010 From the outside, these structures look something like an inflatable fortress. Inside, visitors are treated to a maze of small crevices and tunnels. The architecture of the luminaria, which is the exclusive artistic work of English company Architects of Air, will return to Ottawa for the first time since 2010. Below is a brief description of what the OICF is looking for: STEWARD PROFILE
