Ottawa, Canada –The Embassy of Mexico in Canada is excited to announce "The Week of Mexico in Canada," along with the second edition of the "Viva México on Sparks St Festival." This weeklong plethora of events happening from September 7 to 15, will serve as the backdrop for the commemoration of Mexico's national day and will bring the best of Mexican culture, food, music, and traditions to Ottawa.
An Emmy-award winning artist, a Rolling Stone magazine-recognized singer, a Gourmet Magazine laureated chef and a mixologist with a “forbidden drink” will be some of the many personalities that will present unique experiences available for the first time in Canada.
Proudly featuring the Northern Mexican state of Sonora - the birthplace of carne asada burritos - as our guest of honor, who will present its rich cultural heritage through "Casa Sonora," an immersive showcase offering a unique taste of its gastronomy, indigenous traditions, music, and handmade products.
The Week of Mexico in Canada kicks off with the illumination of Niagara Falls and a performance on the viewing deck on September 7, followed by a week of activities in Ottawa starting September 9.
Casa Sonora at the Embassy of Mexico (45 O’Connor St, 10th Floor, Ottawa) will be a cultural hub open to the public on select days and hours from September 9 to 15, and will feature workshops, films, exhibits and more.
Sonora Nights, a gastronomic tour on September 11 and 12, featuring elevated Sonoran dishes, Bacanora liqueur, local beer and wine at various Mexican restaurants in the capital region of Ottawa-Gatineau paired with live music.
The Viva México Festival on Sparks St (between Kent and Lyon, Ottawa) from September 13 to 15, with a vibrant array of music, dance, food, cultural experiences, and activities for the whole family. Experience a traditional Sonoran “Carnita Asada” lunch, the magnificent “Deer Dance” and the unique Grito ceremony, followed by vibrant performances by artists El Dasa and Damaris Bojor, accompanied by Mariachi and Norteño band. The grand finale for a fantastic week.
