June 11, 2015 Great Canadian Theatre Company is ending its 2014-2015 season with a smash hit. Today, the theatre announced its production of The Public Servant is completely sold out. Since opening night on June 4th, the Box Office has been inundated with hundreds of calls a day, quickly selling out all available tickets not held by subscribers. The show runs until June 21 and cannot be extended due to artist availability. There may be tickets returned to the Box Office and resold to people who come to the theatre thirty minutes before each performance. It is clear audiences throughout Ottawa and Gatineau have connected with this poignant comedy about the thousands of people who live and work right here, dedicating their lives to the public service. “I believed from the beginning that The Public Servant would be a hit in this town," says Eric Coates, GCTC’s Artistic Director. “For people who love smart, relevant entertainment, buying a subscription is the only way to guarantee they won’t miss out.” The Public Servant is directed by Jennifer Brewin, Artistic Director of Common Boots Theatre (formerly Theatre Columbus). The company commissioned it and Brewin created it with collaborators Haley McGee, Sarah McVie and Amy Rutherford, all of whom star in the production. A shorter version premiered at undercurrents festival in 2013 and was subsequently co-developed with GCTC.
